Hearts, Hugs, and Kisses

I made Valentine cookies for my girl E's fourth grade class yesterday.

I used the Sugar Cookie recipe from Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook and decorated them with Royal Icing made from Wilton Meringue Powder.

It wasn't a total flop, but not a complete success either. I want a sugar cookie recipe that's somewhere between this one (very buttery and crisp) and my mom's (soft and pillowy).

I had to add way more water to the icing than the recipe called for to get it to flow and the result was that this morning they still weren't completely set and the icing was smearing when I put them in plasic bags to be passed out in class.

I really got into decorating them and think they turned out pretty, even if they aren't perfect.

Here we go again.

I'm going an attempt to start blogging again, now that we have internet access at home. Not long ago, I delved into the zip file of my deceased Xanga blog. It reminded me how blogging is a validation of how I spend my days. It also proved that writing it down is a powerful memory tool. I was reading entries from three years ago, and could vividly remember the event I was writing about.

What will I write about here? Family life, cooking, crafts, memories, book and movie reviews, things I'm pondering.

Photos will be plentiful.

What will I not write about? My personal agonies ( I say this lightly). This blog will not become a place to vent my frustrations. I made that mistake on Xanga, and it left me feeling vulnerable, and ultimately led to the death of that blog. So, none of that.

And I'm off to get busy doing something so I can write about it later!
